The Little Prince

A sweet recommendation from my boyfriend, at first thought it looked like a bed time story for kids (It can make a very good one though!) but grown-ups can enjoy this book as much as kids!

A very touching tale of an adorable prince who comes from an alienated planet and meets with a pilot who gets stranded on the desert. The planet the prince belongs to has only 2 volcanoes and one rose. You may guess that the little boy should be astonished after seeing the vastness of the Planet Earth but he instead gets confused with grown-up's problems and questions the pilot which are thought-provoking for the readers.

A French classic tale by origin was published in 1943 and has been translated over 250 languages.

My favorite two parts from this story are:

1. The little boy’s special bond with a rose

He used to water a just-a-regular rose in his planet for a whole day and took care of it all his time and how happy he was! but here on Earth humans have gardens with thousands of roses but still they are not happy!

2. And then there is a conversation with a fox

The wise fox tells the prince,

  • "And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye"

  • "The most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or touched, they are felt with the heart"

  • "It is the time you have wasted for your rose that makes your rose so important”

One of the lines from the book goes like this, "Grown-ups never understand anything by themselves, and it is tiresome for children to be always and forever explaining things to them".

In the end it is tough to decide what you love the most about this little prince, his innocence or his wisdom when he asks why did the grown-ups loose their innocence!
